I am delighted to announce that Yahoo! JAPAN has just gone live with our geomagnetic indoor positioning technology in its Yahoo! Maps Android app.

Yahoo! JAPAN is the leading internet portal in Japan and their Yahoo! Maps app exceeded 10 million downloads in March this year. This app will now enable location finding and route navigation indoors in complex maze-like venues such as Shinjuku, Shibuya and Tokyo stations and undergrounds.

Yahoo! JAPAN came to us with a challenge – how could we help their users find and navigate to locations indoors. Their existing map/navigation application could not fulfill this need indoors. After realizing the scale challenge with many indoor positioning systems, they were excited to learn that our technology could help them scale more easily and with high positioning accuracy “unlike other technologies available on the market today.” In addition, our technology also enabled them to leverage existing WiFi and beacon infrastructures to help them achieve further optimization.

We are very excited about this launch announcement and the future possibilities of this app. As Yahoo! JAPAN continues to provide indoor location finding and route navigation in other large-scale stations and commercial facilities in the future, our technology has the potential to reach a high percentage of the 38 million inhabitants in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area alone.
