IT asset tracking in hospitals

Challenge

Helsinki University Hospital (HUS), Finland’s largest healthcare provider, manages more than 30,000 workstations and other endpoints. Devices were replaced on a fixed schedule, and there was no real-time view of where each device was or how it performed.

  • Over 30,000 endpoints to manage
  • Replacement every three to four years, by calendar
  • Devices are hard to find for maintenance

Solution

Optimo’s DUX platform collects data from each device. Optimo built an agent on the IndoorAtlas Positioning API that runs on each computer and locates it from radio signals, so IT staff can find the device quickly for maintenance. Devices are now replaced when their condition requires it, not by calendar: lifecycles have been extended from three years to as long as six, with savings of millions of euros a year.
