Letter from the CEO, Janne Haverinen
Greetings IndoorAtlas Friends,
We turned three! We’ve come a long way, and there are many exciting things in the works that we will be sharing with you soon. We have some of the best fans in the world, and we’re glad you’re here.
When I started IndoorAtlas, way back in 2012, the use of compass sensors was largely unexplored. My first experiments on mapping the indoors using robots were conducted in my laboratory in the University of Oulu in Finland. I discovered that every building had a unique magnetic signature and there was no need to install special equipment inside building at all. Esa, our CTO, brought a great algorithm to the table, the University supported us, and IndoorAtlas was born.
Today, we use the compass that is already in our smartphone to detect anomalies in a magnetic field that come from steel structures in buildings. IndoorAtlas became a world leader in providing solutions to developers to build location based apps and scale their plans globally.
I’m excited about the opportunity to transform the way people will be looking for indoor navigation. Whether people are looking for a store in a mall, or a friend anywhere indoors, or the right terminal at an airport, IndoorAtlas is all about helping people find their way and get there, with more efficiency, and confidence.
I’m incredibly grateful to the IndoorAtlas team, our growing developer community, investors, customers, partners, and industry peers who helped get IndoorAtlas to where it is today.
Thank you for joining us in our quest to map the indoors and help people find their way.
Sincerely,
Janne Haverinen
